Overview
The National Environment Protection Agency (National EPA) began operations on 1 July 2026, bringing together Australia’s key national environmental regulatory functions.
As part of our commitment to continuous improvement, we are seeking your feedback on the systems, tools and processes we use to administer and regulate Australia’s national environment protection laws.
Your feedback will help us identify opportunities to further improve how we regulate and engage with stakeholders.
We welcome feedback from individuals and organisations who have interacted with any of the following regulatory systems in the past 12 months:
Environment protection - the assessment and approval pathway for Parts 7-10 of the EPBC Act 1999.
Wildlife trade - regulating the commercial, non-commercial and personal trade in wildlife and wildlife specimens, including CITES listed species, including assessment of permit applications.
Live Import List - assessing applications and other information to decide whether or not to include new live specimens on the list of what can be imported into Australia.
National Television and Computer Recycling Scheme (NTCRS) - providing Australian households and businesses with access to collection and recycling services for end-of-life TVs and computers, including accessories such as printers.
Waste export - regulating the export of waste glass, tyres, plastic, paper and cardboard.
Hazardous waste - regulating exports, imports and transits of hazardous waste through permitting, education and targeted compliance measures to manage the waste in an environmentally sound manner.
Ozone Protection and Synthetic Greenhouse Gas Regulation import and export licensing - regulating the import, export and manufacture of ozone depleting substances and synthetic greenhouse gases.
Refrigeration and air conditioning permit scheme - regulating the trade and handling of regulated refrigerants.
Fire protection permit scheme - regulating the trade and handling of extinguishing agents.
Product Emission Standards - regulating small petrol and marine engines to reduce air pollution.
Sea dumping - regulating the loading and dumping of waste at sea and the creation of artificial reefs in Australian waters.
The survey will provide insights about:
Preferred channels for communication
Satisfaction with our communication and how we regulate
Usability of guidance and resources
Transparency and integrity of regulatory decisions
Adequacy of timeframes in regulatory processes
You will only be asked to answer questions relevant to you. The survey does not address the reforms to the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999.

Feedback collected in the survey helps to inform our program activities and priorities during the establishment of the National EPA. We intend to release findings as part of our reporting and use them as a baseline for regular monitoring in the future .
